Our approach to public policy

We support balanced policies that protect consumers, promote product safety, safeguard privacy and data security, and keep the door open for small and independent businesses to reach customers online. We aim to be a constructive, transparent partner on issues that affect e-commerce marketplaces and the makers who sell on them.

Compliance

We work to comply with applicable laws and regulations, including consumer-protection, product-safety, tax, privacy, and marketplace rules. We expect the same of our vendors, who are responsible for the legality, safety, and compliance of the products they sell.

Legal requests and law enforcement

We respect the legal process and applicable privacy laws. We respond to valid legal requests — such as subpoenas, court orders, and lawful law-enforcement demands — in accordance with the law and our Privacy Notice. We seek to narrow overbroad requests and to notify affected users where permitted and appropriate.

Product safety cooperation

We cooperate with regulators such as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on recalls and safety concerns, and we act on credible reports of unsafe products. See our Product Safety Tips.
